We are pleased to present the 105th issue of the Congo Challenge monthly (January 2026), an edition marked by contained inflation, relative stability of the Congolese franc, and a comfortable level of foreign exchange reserves, against an international backdrop characterized by moderate global growth and diverging monetary dynamics.
In this issue, we review the key developments of the month:
- The continued disinflation process, with annual inflation standing at around 2.29%, well below the Central Bank of the Congo’s 7.96% target;
- The slight depreciation of the Congolese franc on the interbank market, combined with an appreciation on the parallel market and foreign exchange reserves covering nearly three months of imports;
- International economic trends, characterized by moderate global growth, ongoing inflationary easing, and mixed performance across financial markets;
- Strategic commodity dynamics, including rising gold, copper, and cobalt prices, alongside a rebound in oil prices;
- Domestic economic challenges, notably monetary policy easing, mounting public finance pressures, and the continuation of fiscal reforms;
- Political and security developments, including the Luanda dialogue process, the announced withdrawal of M23/AFC from Uvira, and the commemoration of national heroes.
Happy reading.
